Lecture: Geometallurgy - Geology in Process

The UFMG Student Chapter invites everyone to the lecture about Geometallurgy on May 5, 2018 with the Geologist Fernando Villanova. Fernando is a geologist graduated at UFMG in 2011 and holds a master's degree in Mineral Engineering at USP (2018). He currently works at the Cuiabá Mine with short-term estimates, geometry and reconciliation.

Lectures: Orogenic Gold in Quadrilátero Ferrífero and Iron Formation

The UFMG Students Chapter together with UFRGS Student Chapter organized lectures on September 13th and 14th with the following topics: "Examples of Orogenic Gold in Quadrilátero Ferrífero", given by Prof. Dr. Rosaline CF Silva and "Iron Formations and Mineralization in Fe - Implications for the geotectonic of the San Francisco Craton" with Prof. Dr. Carlos Alberto Rosière.

Datamine training course

August 28, 2017

From August 28th to September 1st, the members of SEG - UFMG Student Chapter had the opportunity to learn with the geologist Arthur Marques how to use the Datamine software, designed specifically to cater to the needs of the geologist resource. The course was offered to provide the members with technical familiarity of the software and the applied knowledge and skills to effectively incorporate the use of the available tools into daily mining activities.

Expedition to the Mineral District of Carajás

July 10, 2017

The Expedition to the Mineral District of Carajás was conducted in the second week of July/2017, promoted by the Agency for Technological Development for the Brazilian Mineral Industry (ADIMB). The expedition was attended by members of the Student Chapters of UFMG, UFRGS, UnB, UERJ, UFRJ, UNESP, UNICAMP, USP and UFPA.

I Economic Geology Workshop

June 05, 2017

From June 5th to 7th 2017, the UFMG Student Chapter held the first workshop on Economic Geology at the Institute of Geosciences of UFMG, focusing on the economic geology of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero. Check out our schedule here.

Course in Applied Geophysics

December 16, 2016

On December 16th and 19th, 2016, we counted with the collaboration of Prof. Thiago Madeira for a short 16h theoretical and practical course in Applied Geophysics. The members of  SEG Student Chapter UFMG had the opportunity to expand their knowledge in magnetometry, radiometry, the Euler deconvolution technique, as well as the use and treatment of images with shaded relief.

Lecture: Fluids Inclusions and their Applications in Metallogetical Studies

The UFMG Student Chapter organized a lecture on "Fluid Inclusions and their Applications in Metalogenetic Studies" given by Dr. Lucilia de Oliveira, on 03/22. The lecture included members of the student chapter, as well as undergraduate and graduate students from the Department of Geology at UFMG and  CDTN (Centro de Desenvolvimento da Tecnologia Nuclear)

Technical visit to CBMM

October 25, 2017

On October 25th, members of  UFMG Student Chapter together with and USP Student Chapter went to a technical visit to the mine and the industrial complex of Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração (CBMM) located in Araxá - Minas Gerais. CBMM is a Brazilian company that explores the world's largest reserves of niobium. The visit was guided by the geologist Tiago Gomes, who explained about the geology of the deposit and also about the ore exploration processes in the company.

III Edition of UFMG Student Chapter in Quadrilátero Ferrífero

September 09, 2017

On September 9th and 10th, members of UFMG SEG Student Chapter and geologist students from UFMG went to the III Quadrangle Expedition. The field trip covered the entire mineral province and introduced the geology of the region with a focus on metallogeny and mineral exploration.

Lectures: Gold in Brazil and iron deposits in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero

  UFMG Student Chapter in partnership with UFPR Student Chapter organized on July 18th, 2017 lectures with the teachers Rosaline Silva and Lydia Lobato, who made an excellent briefing on iron and gold deposits in Brazil, with special focus on the Quadrilátero Ferrífero.

Lecture Chuck Thorman

March 28, 2017

On March 28, 2017, UFMG SEG Student Chapter held a lecture of the geologist Mr. Chuck Thorman on the topic: Metamorphic Mineral Assemblage P-T Conditions Vs. Field Mapping P-T Conditions: A Field / Lab Problem To Be Resolved . The lecture took place in the auditorium of the Institute of Geosciences of UFMG, and was attended by teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates and other professionals.

Lectures, technical visits and field trip – Quadrilátero Ferrífero

November 01, 2016

A fascinating opportunity to know and teach a little more about the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, took place in the first week of November 2016, in partnership with UNESP SEG Student Chapter. We had a field trip in Serra da Moeda, Serra da Piedade and Ouro Preto region, lectures with professors from UFMG and UFOP, as well as technical visits to companies in the region such as AngloGold, Magnesita, Vale and Vallorec.
